We are always happy to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer with the choir. Please write to us via the contact page explaining a bit about your skills and how you would like to be involved.
Current employment opportunities are listed below.
SING THE NORTH is a global virtual family of choirs based in Canada.
We are seeking a dynamic folk musician (or group) to lead our monthly casual kitchen-party choir, STN FRIDAYS.
If you love classic Canadian sea shanties and folk tunes, can play an instrument and sing, enjoy teaching harmonies both by ear and using a score, and are comfortable making music with amateur singers of all ages on Zoom, we would love to hear from you.
A typical STN Fridays session features a bit of banter, a bit of playing, some teaching of harmonies, and lots of time left open for tall tales and sharing of songs from our lead musician and from the singers attending.
Two weeks before each session, we provide a simple video of our STN Fridays leader singing that month’s main tune in parts to help singers learn. After the kitchen party, this vid is released online for those who want to record and share.
Tune choice is shared. We at STN would like to go through some of the classics, so have some of these timetabled already (e.g. Barrett’s Privateers, Bully Boys). We’d love our STN Fridays leader to be able to lead/teach these songs, but also to bring their own ideas and to work in the odd request from singers in a future week now and again.
Session lasts c. 1.5 hours and take place on the last Friday of every month at 5pm Pacific time. (Possibility of more frequent sessions if popular.)
We pay a fee of $150 per contracted session, plus a fixed rate fee of $4 per singer attending live.
Singers attending pay a small fee to pay our musician and to gain access to the live session link through our website. Sessions are video recorded via zoom so singers can watch again on catch up. Musician’s fee includes your time video recording the parts for the singers in advance.
We would love to hear from both folk musicians who would like to feature with STN Fridays once in a while, as well as those who are seeking a more regular gig.
Thank you for your interest in joining us as a new Leader with STN Fridays. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
